The body of work I am developing is a collection of mixed-media artworks and creative experiments, and seeks to explore the ludic, play with different artistic ideas, and challenge the often self-imposed expectations of maladaptive perfectionism that may threaten creativity and wellbeing.
Reflexive of its working title ‘I’m Sick Of Life Taking The Fun Out Of Art’, this work was originally a personal project and cathartic process, in which to re-engage with the practice of play, experimentation, and spontaneity in art; free of any restrictions and pressures in regards to form, subject, narrative, medium or material; and aims to continue developing within these parameters, offering permission to create purely with the aim of creating something.
The hope is that by engaging with this process - challenging my own perfectionist tendencies for a more forgiving and open-minded approach to making - others may feel welcome to question their own perceived expectations, and find ways to consistently remain content and motivated with art-making.
